The best way to install a home theater system is to do it as the house is being built.  We won’t have to cut into any walls, drill holes into floorboards, or work our way around furniture.  We love working with homebuilders to create exceptional systems, but don’t let that fool you: our relationship is still with our customer, the end user.

Starting from scratch does require a level of sensitivity with homebuilders. We don’t want to get in the way of contractors, or have our work delay scheduling.  still, home electronics – in many ways – are just as important to a new home as is the plumbing, wiring and structure.  Our work goes beyond entertainment, too: It’s lighting, security systems, and heating and air conditioning controls – and integrating it all for ease of use.

Working with builders makes our job easier, too.  If we can see where recessed lighting will be, for example, we can build our speakers around it.  it gives us flexibility.

Our industry software is called D-Tools, and allows us to create accurate A/V system designs and manage our projects.  We can import an architect’s CAD drawings and design your electronics architecture around the home design plans.

Alice Crypt typifies a Fringe Festival production. Operating on nearly non-existent budgets, led by single-minded producers/directors/writers, peopled by amateur or, at best, semi-professional casts and crews, Fringe Festival productions are often far riskier and equally less polished than their bourgeois cousins found at the full-time theatre houses. a Fringe production, thereby, greatly increases its odds of being either a dazzling surprise or an abject failure. Or, as in the case of Alice Crypt, it can tread the middle ground and offer moments of inspired creativity side by side with cringe-worthy missteps.

If I had to describe Alice Crypt in one pitch meeting-type phrase, it would be Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland by way of Corpse Bride. Andryn Arithson, the producer/director/writer, joins the likes of Tim Burton, Clyde Geronimi (the Disney version) and Alan Moore in reimagining Lewis Carroll’s mind-bending little-girl-lost story. In some ways, Arithson’s version blazes its own trail.

Alice (C. may Nickel), for instance, arrives in this version of Wonderland looking like a Goth hottie and brandishing a knife, and she follows a black cat rather than a white rabbit into the unknown.

In other ways, most obviously the makeup and strained, one-note portrayal of the Queen of Wasps (who, apparently, usurped the Queen of Hearts from the original), Alice Crypt betrays the heavy influence of the most recent Tim Burton version of the tale. Similarly, given the current bloodsucker mania sweeping the nation I suppose it was inevitable that Alice Crypt would feature a vampire (presumably subbing for the Mad Hatter). Still, must it have been so? the vampire has an English accent. of course. he speaks in a series of sexy double entendres. of course. he has a pelvis-gyrating, rock opera-style musical number. of course. (Damn you, Twilight! True Blood, you get a pass.)

Where Alice Crypt most surpasses expectations is in its details. the makeup and costuming of the Cheshire Cat are quite good and, in conjunction with a strong performance by Ariel Haan, help define that character more completely than many others on stage. the design of the fish in one story-within-a-story scene is remarkable in its effectiveness and simplicity. the various creatures that stilt walker Annabel Reader brings to life are, to a one, oddly interesting. the Jabberwocky, too, is a pleasantly unexpected combination of prosthetics and lumbering gait that is intended to terrify but, I am sure unintentionally, brings immediately to mind a demented Snuffaluffagus after a week at Mardi Gras.

While I enjoyed much of Alice Crypt — particularly Nickel’s credible, modern Alice — one key aspect of this adaptation kept me from engaging with it to the extent I might have liked. To explain, I must drop a spoiler, so stop reading now if you want to go in completely fresh.

In the “traditional” Alice, the reader or viewer is left to ponder whether Wonderland is real or merely a dream and whether Alice will find her way home or be trapped there forever. In Alice Crypt, dear little Alice is actually dearly departed little Alice, and from scene one (or for the less observant among you, scene three or so) there is no ambiguity about the fact that she is deader than the least lively doornail.

Alice’s death precludes any return to the “real world,” and leaves Alice Crypt, along with this critic, in a state of limbo. with the end foretold at the very beginning and no way out for poor Alice, the rooting interest is non-existent, and the play misses its chance to engage the audience’s empathy.

HDTV – The Unknown Side

Introduction

HDTV technology was first introduced in the US during the 1990s by a group of electronics companies called the Digital HDTV Grand Alliance. HDTV is capable of “theater-quality” audio because it uses the Dolby Digital (AC-3) format to support “5. HDTV offers a degree of clarity that is much closer to this. HDTV can be recorded to D-VHS (Data-VHS), W-VHS (analog only), to a HDTV-capable digital video recorder (for example DirecTV’s high-definition Digital video recorder, Sky HD’s set-top box, or TiVo’s Series 3 or HD recorders), or an HDTV-ready HTPC. HDTV is just one part of the DTV transition. HDTV is best viewed on a new high-definition television. HDTV requires an HDTV tuner to view and the most detailed HDTV format is 1080i.

Definition

The term “high-definition” can refer to the resolution specifications themselves, or more loosely to media capable of similar sharpness, such as photographic film and digital video. High-definition television (HDTV) potentially offers a much better picture quality than standard television. NTSC system, established in 1941, were high definition only in comparison with previous mechanical and electronic television systems, and NTSC, along with the later European 625-line PAL and SECAMs, is described as standard definition today.

Television

While some early analog HDTV formats were broadcast in Europe and Japan, HDTV is usually broadcast digitally, because digital television (DTV) broadcasting requires much less bandwidth if it uses enough video compression. To get a better picture HDTV televisions require a High Definition (HD) signal. As of 2007, broadcasters may demand, or cable-television operators may elect, to place HD signals in a premium band that requires higher cable fees. HDTV has at least twice the linear resolution of standard-definition television (SDTV), thus allowing much more detail to be shown compared with analog television or regular DVD.

Resolution

It should be noted that while HDTV is more like a theater in quality than conventional television, 35 mm and 70 mm film projectors used in theaters still have the highest resolution and best viewing quality on very large screens. Digital NTSC- and PAL/SECAM-like signals (480i60 and 576i50 respectively) are transmitted at a horizontal resolution of 720 or 704 “pixels”. In Australia, the 576p50 format is also considered a HDTV format, as it has doubled temporal resolution though the use of progressive scanning. For example, you can get a 72″ projection HDTV that has 1920×1080 resolution from 00 to 00 depending on the brand and model.

Satellite

Satellite services and a Cable TV providers are providing an increasing number of HDTV feeds. Satellite-based TV companies, such as Optimum, DirecTV, Sky Digital (In the UK and Ireland) and DishNetwork, offer HDTV to customers as an upgrade. To receive an HDTV broadcast you need either a TV with a built-in HDTV tuner, like this Panasonic plasma HDTV, an HDTV receiver which can pick-up off the air HDTV channels, cable HDTV, or satellite HDTV receiver like Dish Network HDTV and this DirecTV H10 receiver.

Technology

While high definition has become a reality for many consumers, the technical jargon associated with this exiting new technology is causing much confusion. Through the evolution of display technology, a new television has emerged; so totally different, a new TV ‘paragon’ has been created. it doesn’t require a degree in TV Technology.

In addition, lack of enthusiastic co-operation between broadcasters, cable/satellite providers, and manufacturers has injected further confusion for retailers on how to sell HDTV and consumers as what products to buy, how to use them, and to what programs are actually available in HDTV. On the other hand, a very high resolution source may require more bandwidth than is available in order to be transmitted without loss of fidelity.

To watch high definition television or HDTV you will need three things: A Satellite or Cable program subscription to HD Programming; An HDTV Satellite Receiver or Digital Set Top Box; A high definition television set (HDTV). over two and half years after Ubisoft bought the Tom Clancy brand outright, the French publisher has announced two more games based on the military thriller author’s work. the first, Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Predator, will arrive exclusively on the PSP in November. the game was first hinted at last fall by the Australian game-ratings board and was further confirmed by an Entertainment Software Rating Board listing last month.

Set in the Sri Lankan jungle, Predator follows a team of the elite soldiers known as Ghosts as they scout out the South Asian island in preparation for a US invasion. as in other Ghost Recon games, players will be equipped with a variety of prototype weaponry, including unmanned drones such as those featured in the 2006 hit Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter. the game will also sport a co-op mode for up to four players via ad hoc mode and three players via the PlayStation Network.

Ubisoft also announced a new Wii game, simply called Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon. Much like the 2002 original Ghost Recon, the game will be set inside a fictional near-future Russia torn apart by civil strife. It too will have a co-op player component, supporting up to two players locally with the option to drop in or drop out at anytime. the game will feature 12 missions set in several countries, including Norway, and will have an Arcade mode with online leaderboards.

the Wii Ghost Recon will also arrive in November, several months before the next Ghost Recon game, Future Soldier, ships for the PC, PlayStation 3, DS, and Xbox 360 in the first quarter of 2011. First announced in April 2009, Ghost Recon: Future Soldier gets its name from the “Future Soldier” programs being conducted by the US and its NATO allies. the initiative, currently part of the US Army’s Brigade Combat Team Modernization Program, focuses on outfitting infantrymen with networked communications and high-tech equipment.
